How to Get People to Stay on Your Website Longer

Websites have become a prerequisite for businesses and organizations in this digital age. Seeing as most people use them to acquire information and interact with brands, it can be considered a necessity. For this reason, you may be looking for ways to better manage your site and attract the types of people that you’re targeting. One of the most common ways of doing that these days is by using SEO methods to help you gain greater visibility online. However, that’s only half of the challenge as once you drive people to your site, you need to get them to stay for long enough. You’re going to see how you can get them to do that below. 

Make Sure It’s Easy to Navigate  

One of the most off-putting things for anyone visiting a site is probably a chaotic layout. It can make the visitor leave quicker than you’d like, so make sure your layout is user-friendly. The user’s experience should be of the uttermost importance, so you want something they can easily find their way around. To achieve user-friendliness, try sticking to a simple and functional design. In practical terms, this would translate to simple high-resolution images and minimal text if possible. 

Improve Site Speed

In relation to user-friendliness, improving your site speed is another practical way to get people to stay on your page long enough. Slow loading times can be extremely frustrating for visitors and result in a high bounce rate. To improve your site speed, you should try and reduce your image sizes, only include content you need on the site and compress your codes. If despite your efforts the problem persists, you may need to change your hosting and use a company with a quicker and more reliable server. 

Create Content They Like 

When people go to your website, they’re going to engage in some form of content whether it be video, text or images. It is important that you make sure this content is engaging enough if you want them to stick around. To figure out what sort of content they’re interested in, doing keyword research may help as well as using the psychographics of your target audience as an indicator. Also, check your best performing content as this could give you insight on what to create more of.

Include Internal Links 

Internal linking can be very effective if you use it throughout your website. However, you’ve got to use it in the right way if you want people to stay on your site longer. When including internal links, think about what further information on your site will benefit the reader. Make sure you have no broken links as that can be off-putting for readers too.

Avoid Pop Ups 

In as much as ads are becoming popular on just about every platform, you should find a way to minimize their occurrence or make it easy to opt out of. If not, you may find people are running away from your site because they’re being bombarded by ads. Also, one too many could slow down your site’s speed. 

You will often find that people are willing to spend time engaging on a website if they find the content interesting enough and enjoy the experience. This is where following the tips mentioned above may come in hands. On that note, consider implementing them and seeing how it reduces your bounce rate.
